Enrolled Actuary

About the role

Emparion is seeking an Enrolled Actuary to support our cash balance and defined benefit retirement plan work. This is an internal technical role: you will work on client plans and communicate primarily with Emparion's administration, actuarial, and other internal staff.

An active Enrolled Actuary (EA) designation is required. Hands-on cash balance and defined benefit plan experience is strongly preferred. We may also consider Enrolled Actuaries with related experience who can develop the specialized skills needed for our plan work.

What you will do

• Prepare, review, and certify actuarial valuations for cash balance and traditional defined benefit retirement plans.

• Perform and review funding calculations, benefit calculations, and annual compliance work.

• Support nondiscrimination testing and funding requirements for stand-alone and combined defined benefit/defined contribution plans.

• Review and sign Schedule SBs and other actuarial certifications within your professional responsibilities.

• Support PBGC filings and plan implementation, conversion, and termination work.

• Provide technical guidance to internal staff on plan design, valuation results, compliance questions, and plan proposals.

• Help improve the accuracy, documentation, and efficiency of actuarial processes.

What you bring

• Active Enrolled Actuary (EA) designation.

• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and sound professional judgment.

• Ability to explain technical findings clearly to internal colleagues and collaborate with our administration team.

• Reliable organization and follow-through in a remote work environment.

• Willingness to learn Emparion's systems, procedures, and specialized plan work where needed.

Strongly preferred experience

• Hands-on work with cash balance and traditional defined benefit plans, especially in the small-plan market.

• Retirement plan valuations, funding calculations, and DB/DC combination-plan compliance or nondiscrimination testing.

• Actuarial valuation software, particularly ASC, and Microsoft Excel.

Additional credentials such as ASA, MAAA, ASPPA, or ERPA are welcome but do not replace the required EA designation.

Location and engagement

This is a fully remote opportunity open to candidates throughout the United States. We are recruiting for a full-time employee and are also open to discussing an independent contractor engagement with the right candidate. Scope, schedule, and compensation will be discussed based on experience and the agreed engagement structure.
